Description

Making the perfect fudge brownie requires a delicate balance of ingredients and technique. In this guide, we’ll walk you through the process of making rich, fudgy brownies from scratch. You’ll learn everything from precise ingredient measurements to step-by-step instructions, plus tips on perfecting your brownies

Ingredients

Butter: 1 cup (226g), unsalted

Granulated sugar: 1 ½ cups (300g)

Eggs: 4 large, at room temperature

All-purpose flour: 1 cup (125g), sifted

Cocoa powder: ½ cup (45g), unsweetened

Baking powder: 1 tsp (5g)

Salt: ½ tsp (2g)

Vanilla extract: 1 ½ tsp (7.5ml)

Chocolate chips or chunks: 1 cup (175g) optional for extra gooey texture

Additional Ingredients for Enhanced Flavor (Optional):

Coffee granules: 1 tsp (5g) – to enhance the chocolate flavor

Chopped nuts: ½ cup (50g) – walnuts, pecans, or almonds

Instructions

Preheat the Oven and Prepare the Pan

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

Grease a 9×9-inch baking pan with butter or line it with parchment paper for easy removal of the brownies after baking.

Melt the Butter and Mix with Sugar

In a medium saucepan, melt 1 cup (226g) of unsalted butter over medium heat.

Once the butter is melted, remove the saucepan from the heat and stir in 1 ½ cups (300g) of granulated sugar until fully combined.

Add the Eggs

Allow the butter and sugar mixture to cool slightly, then whisk in 4 large eggs, one at a time.

After adding each egg, whisk until fully incorporated.

Stir in 1 ½ teaspoons (7.5ml) of vanilla extract. You can also add 1 teaspoon (5g) of coffee granules here to enhance the chocolate flavor.

Notes

Ingredient Temperature: Ensure your eggs are at room temperature before adding them to the batter. Room temperature eggs mix more easily with the butter and sugar mixture, helping to create a smooth batter.

Butter Consistency: It’s crucial to melt the butter completely, but avoid overheating it to prevent it from separating. The melted butter should be mixed with sugar while it is still warm, but not too hot, to allow for proper incorporation.

Sifting Dry Ingredients: Sifting the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt ensures that the dry ingredients are well-combined and free from lumps, creating a smoother batter.

Mixing Tips: When combining the dry ingredients with the wet mixture, mix until just combined. Overmixing can result in dense and cake-like brownies, which is something you want to avoid for a fudgy texture.

Checking Doneness: Always check your brownies with a toothpick inserted into the center. For fudgier brownies, the toothpick should come out with a few moist crumbs. If it comes out with wet batter, continue baking for a few more minutes.

Cooling: Allow the brownies to cool completely in the pan before cutting them into squares. This allows the brownies to set and ensures a fudgy, dense texture.
